Gold Creek Hut

Word in from John Beech, President of the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club, and FMC Executive member, but his own man on this project. Long drop completed at Gold Creek.

Looks good as gold aye. Design from Craig Benbow of Malvern Deerstalkers. Will Benbow long drops eventually feature in future hut history books alongside the NZFS 6 Bunk huts?

Matawai Hut

Matawai Hut is located in a forest south of Matwai where the Motu river begins its long journey to the sea. Previously a Mountain Safety Council Hut the hut has now been adopted by the local LANDSAR group. It is commonly used for bushcraft training session with the flat contours oof the forest especially suited for getting a little disoriented.

The Outdoor Recreation Consortium has been able to help this group get the hut up to required standards to ensure its long-term future. Read the report here: Matawai Report
